Student nominated for award

The work of a second year BA (Hons) Film & Video student has been nominated for a prestigious Screentest award in the Best Thriller/Horror category by the National Student Film Festival. The festival takes place in Bristol between the 26th and 28th February and is a celebration of the very best in student filmmaking from all around the country.

NUCA BA (Hons) Film & Video student Robby Wartke's award-nominated film

The film project, 'Tower of Mollusc', was written and directed by Robby Wartke (whose role also encompassed Special Effects Artist, Editor, Sound Editor, 2nd Puppet Builder and Actor).  Robby was assisted by Cinematographer and Lighting Technician Marnie Williams plus Set Assistants Joe Murphy and Joe Wooliams. All four are students on the University College's BA (Hons) Film & Video.

The film, shot on High Definition Video, portrays a man’s nightmarish transformation and will be up against four other nominated films from other Universities.

Film & Video Course Leader Liam Wells says: "Congratulations to Robby and his crew for being nominated in this competitive festival. The short film festival is a great showcase for new-filmmaking talent and it is especially exciting for a group of our year two students to be nominated. The film is highly original and the cinematography, special effects and sound design are of a very high standard. We all have our fingers crossed for Tower of Mollusc!"

The winners of the Screentest awards will be announced at a ceremony at 8pm on Saturday 27th February.  A full list of the nominations can be viewed here.
