BA Fine Art

The BA (Hons) Fine Art degree course at NUCA has a strong and well established reputation and our alumni include Turner Prize nominees.

Students are encouraged to push their practice through experimentation with different techniques and concepts. With access to outstanding tuition, facilities and technical support you will be encouraged to grow in confidence as an artist and creative thinker.

You will work in a studio space where most of your teaching will take place. Tutorials, group critiques and open-studio sessions encourage you to reflect on and define your practice. During the course there will be extensive opportunities to exhibit your work and gain practical experience in installation and curation, particularly within public spaces such as the Student Gallery.

A multidisciplinary approach allows you to experiment with painting, print, sculpture and moving image. As you progress through your studies you will begin to specialise in your chosen area.

The weekly Fine Art Lecture series featuring invited guest speakers includes artists, curators, gallery owners, exhibition organisers and critics who will help you to engage with the contemporary art scene. You will participate in course visits to prominent events such as the annual Frieze Art Fair and visit galleries and shows of national importance. This concurrent professional education will help you in defining your career aspirations.

In choosing Fine Art at NUCA you will become part of a university at the heart of culture in the East of England. There will be regular opportunities for collaboration with respected galleries in the region.

BA Fine Art offers a stimulating creative experience in which you will collaborate with students from other disciplines. Our specialist status ensures a personal experience in which your tutors – practising artists themselves – will get to know you and be able to offer tailored advice and support.
