BA Games Art and Design

The UK games industry is the fourth largest in the world with a third of the population accessing digital games. There is a demand for highly-skilled graduates and the BA (Hons) Games Art and Design degree course at NUCA has established an outstanding reputation as a leading provider of industry-relevant education for this fast-moving sector.

The course welcomes ambitious applicants who are seeking to master digital craftsmanship and ingenuity and who have original ideas about new directions for games art and design. The course provides a clear and structured pathway in which you will become confident in the core elements of digital game production – art, design and technology. The course has good connections with companies such as Apple, EA and Sony Computer Entertainment. Industry advisors help to ensure that the curriculum remains up-to-date so that you graduate with a professionally relevant qualification.

Working in the Media Lab you will develop fundamental art and design techniques and master their digital application. You will use industry standard 2D and 3D game development software to explore your ideas and creativity.

Through seminars, workshops, group critiques and lectures by course staff and industry guests, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of game forms and theory. You will develop a critical appreciation of mainstream and indie games, the 'casual' sector, mobile technologies and cutting edge advancements in art, documentary and persuasive games.

BA Games Art and Design at NUCA goes from strength to strength – in 2012 students won a BAFTA at the Video Game Awards after winning 'Dare to be Digital', Europe's most prestigious student digital games competition. The course also boasts Apple University Developer Status which enables students to use cutting edge software to create apps and games for iOS platforms.
