Studying in Norwich

Norwich combines a rich heritage and history with an exciting and contemporary atmosphere. 1,500 historic buildings, including the 900-year-old cathedral and Norman castle, share the city with modern developments such as The Forum, Norwich's state-of-the-art central library and media centre. Norwich is a thriving cultural centre with a number of galleries, museums, theatres and events, including the oldest international arts festival in the UK. One of the top 10 shopping centres in the UK, Norwich is a major regional focus for business and commerce. It is a city with a warm and welcoming attitude to its student population.

Beyond the city limits, the county of Norfolk's great houses and medieval villages provide their own historical and architectural interest. Norfolk enjoys a tranquil coastline strewn with beaches and small fishing communities. The world famous Norfolk Broads National Park comprises a network of lakes and rivers stretching 200km.

NUCA offers a range of self-catering accommodation for students, both in Halls of Residence and purpose built fully finished student houses, all of which are within easy access of the University College. All rooms are furnished single bedrooms grouped around shared facilities. Although NUCA cannot guarantee a place in managed accommodation for all Year One students, its allocation procedure prioritises international students.

International Student Support

The University College provides a dedicated support service including advice on visas, working in the UK and registering with police, doctors and banks as well as support on cultural differences. Student Support, which is responsible for the personal welfare of all students studying at the College, can also help with any welfare issues. All of our international students are eligible to receive up to four hours English language support each week during term time free of charge.

Tuition Fees

Students from outside of the European Union are required to enrol under a different fee structure to 'home' students.

ApplICATIONS

Interviews

International applicants are not expected to travel to the UK for an interview but can request this if they wish. As an alternative the interview can also take place by telephone, email or post, at the discretion of the Course Leader. As part of the process, students are required to submit a portfolio of work. International students can supply their portfolios in a number of different formats. These include sending digital prints, slides, photographs or CD ROMs of the work, or by directing us to an online portfolio. You will also need to provide examples of your written work.

All lectures, seminars and tutorials are delivered in English, therefore it is important for you to have a good level of English to be able to enjoy and benefit from the course. For BA and MA courses NUCA requires IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. For MPhil and PhD courses candidates should be able to demonstrate good spoken and written English and expected to have an IELTS score of 7.0+, with 7.0 in writing, where applicable.
