EmployabilityNUCA prioritises employability through the development of a set of skills, knowledge and attributes that graduates need in order to be effective in employment, self-employment, as professional practitioners and as lifelong learners. All courses provided by the University College incorporate career planning and the development of subject-specific and transferable skills to enhance your employability. In addition, the University College's MATRIX standard Careers Service offers advice sessions, workshops and a range of resources to assist you in finding the right career or further study opportunity. After you have graduated, you can access the Careers Service for up to three years or for life if you become a member of the University College Alumni Network. The Careers Service also advertises jobs (including summer jobs), internships and volunteering opportunities, all of which help students and graduates to gain work experience and develop their employability skills. Business and Professional Skill DevelopmentPersonal Development Planning is integrated within course units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and is relevant to a range of contexts including creative practice and employability. Students at either level are also encouraged to undertake work placements while studying. You will develop skills in creative practice, business and professional studies, contextual understanding and planning and development, in order to help you prepare for employment, professional practice or continuing education. For course-specific information see the Your Future section on each course page. Postgraduate study provides the opportunity to develop the transferable skills of research, communication and independent study. For postgraduate research students the University College's research training programme develops your generic and subject-based professional skills in areas such as publication, intellectual property and career planning, and assists you in developing your professional networks. Remaining relevant to modern creative industriesThe University College has a range of local and national links with the creative industries and involves industry representatives in the approval and periodic review of its courses.
