BA (Hons) GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

There is increasing demand for high quality individuals with skills relevant to the communication industries. This course balances analysis and theory with the development of personal creativity.

The vocationally-focussed syllabus produces industry-ready graduates with the up-to-date skills demanded by the workplace.

Students explore traditional design and communication, areas of digital media and business awareness, and may undertake work placements, ‘live’ briefs or industry-mentored projects.

Students who successfully complete a Foundation Degree are able to progress to BA (Hons) Graphic Communication Level Three at NUCA.

LEVEL ONE

Practical skills are developed alongside the study and application of conceptual and creative thinking. An investigation of typographic design, image creation, photography, print, layout and the application of word and image is undertaken.

Projects expose students to a range of end user disciplines including advertising, promotion, corporate identity, information and publishing design, web and interactive communication and product packaging.

The Critical Studies programme introduces interpretive and theoretical skills such as creative thinking and visualisation.

LEVEL TWO

Further study enhances intellectual, imaginative and technical capabilities. The course structure enables learning to be tailored to individual interests.

Students will investigate the context of their work from a range of industry perspectives and explore professional case studies that provide vital cultural and economic perspectives.

A final major project, centred on a personal area of interest, is undertaken.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL

Many of the students on this Foundation Degree choose to continue their education to BA Honours level. Graduates of the course now work in design consultancies, advertising agencies, print, publishing and packaging companies both nationally and internationally.
