BA (Hons) PHOTOGRAPHY
We see photography as one element of communication within the overall language of graphic design. This BA (Hons) Photography course centres upon the creation of imagery as applicable to a wide variety of end usages, including advertising, publishing, interactive design, educational, business and community projects.
Professional skills are only as good as the thinking that drives them and this course insists on study of both theory and practice. Practical photographic assignments are blended with a study programme in which students acquire distinct ways of thinking.
LEVEL ONE
As well as providing an introduction to Photography itself, students undertake study alongside those from other design disciplines. After this spectrum of experiences, they become familiar with an array of practices and have a clear understanding of the role and impact images command alongside text, and in design layouts.
LEVEL TWO
Students concentrate their energies on acquiring professional standards of photographic practice through project, studio, location, workshop and darkroom studies.
There are opportunities to produce work for real clients, undertake work assignments or to synergise with other design disciplines at NUCA.
LEVEL THREE
Level Three consolidates learning, skills and intellectual capacities. Syllabuses are tailored to address areas that reflect personal aspirations. Students produce dissertations on subjects that especially fascinate them. In preparation for employment we introduce sound business and professional studies.
