BA (Hons) TEXTILES

Our broad creative approach to textiles equips you with a wide range of skills to pursue your personal ambitions."

Nick Rodgers
COURSE LEADER

An adventurous and risk-taking approach to ideas, materials and processes is key to innovation. This BA (Hons) Textiles degree course encourages students to challenge conventional thinking, to explore the boundaries of traditional practice and to invent new concepts and techniques.

Students journey through a range of textile processes that reflect the nature of contemporary visual practice. Whilst developing practical skills, they also sharpen their capacity for analytical and theoretical thinking.

LEVEL ONE

Students are introduced to a variety of workshop methodologies and receive training in print, dye, heat press work, knit, weave, stitch, embroidery and fabric construction. You will also pick up support skills such as drawing, photography, Photoshop and Illustrator.

This broad introductory experience boosts confidence, enhances visual research strategies, develops conceptual abilities and encourages experimentation.

LEVEL TWO

Independent practice, visual interpretation and critical judgement are given room to develop to a higher level. Students complete learning agreements within broadly themed frameworks. Artists and designers working within textiles and fashion are invited to give talks and provide additional encouragement.

LEVEL THREE

In their final year students refine and consolidate their ideas further by undertaking a major project. They also research and prepare a dissertation and compile a body of practice-based work for assessment and exhibition.
