The question is not are games art, that's a given. It is how are games art."

Marie-Claire Isaaman
COURSE LEADER

The UK has a well-respected and innovative games software industry. This course supports this sector by nurturing qualified, talented individuals. As technology advances and platforms diversify our graduates will be well placed to exploit these new creative and cultural challenges.

This studio-based, project led course provides the essential skills and techniques needed to encourage experimentation. Work-related learning instils an industry-ready attitude and perspective.
Students who successfully complete this Foundation Degree may progress to BA (Hons) Games Art and Design Level Three at NUCA.

LEVEL ONE

From idea to final product, students are introduced to the tools, concepts and fundamentals of creative games design and gameplay.

Animation principles are introduced and we examine how games animators incorporate characterisation, realistic motion and emotive storylines. Students become proficient in Maya software and build 3D versions of earlier projects.

Critical Studies, Personal Development Planning and Business Studies support and inform these main components.

LEVEL TWO

Drawing upon existing knowledge of gameplay, genres, narrative and platforms, students devise their own conceptual games.

Students compile a portfolio of work to help them enter the games industry, or to progress towards BA Honours Level Three and will be given the time and support to produce new work in an area that most interests them.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL

The course is an Apple Developer and has collaborative projects with the UEA School of Computing Sciences. Our graduates go on to work at some of the worlds leading studios.

An Industry Liaison Group consisting of stakeholders from games organisations informs the course and curriculum.
