Johnny Cash photographer becomes Visiting Professor at NUCAA new initiative to bring high achievers from the creative industries in to interact with students has been launched by Norwich University College of the Arts (NUCA), starting with a guest lecture by international celebrity photographer Andy Earl. Andy Earl's album cover for Pink Floyd's live album Delicate Sound of ThunderWith career credits that include over 25 magazine covers, 120 album covers and countless portraits for the likes of Prince, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and Madonna, plus commercial commissions for companies such as Canon, Deutsche Bank and the BBC, Andy Earl has achieved renown in his field and is a much sought-after speaker at professional photography shows. One of his most iconic images is his black and white portrait of Johnny Cash, which was used on the cover of Cash’s American Recordings album. Andy Earl will give a lecture to students at NUCA on Friday 10th February to mark his appointment as a Visiting Professor at NUCA, a role which will see him visit the University College twice a year to deliver workshops to students as well as provide valuable advice on academic or industry developments for its Photography course. NUCA Principal, Professor John Last commented: "NUCA has demonstrated a firm commitment to preparing students for careers in the creative industries through its recruitment of industry-experienced teaching and technical staff, its development of a business skills-focused curriculum and its close links with industry through live briefs and guest lectures. By naming a number of renowned professionals as Visiting Professors the University College is formalising relationships that will strengthen the levels of industry knowledge and experience that benefit the learning and creative activity of students. "Andy Earl is an excellent example of a practitioner who has reached the pinnacle of his profession and is now going to share his experiences with students of photography and of design in Norwich, as well as assist in shaping the future of NUCA’s BA Photography course." The announcement of Andy Earl as Visiting Professor comes after NUCA opened a brand new facility for its BA Photography degree course, which houses a state-of-the-art digital darkroom and extensive studio facilities for still life, fashion and portraiture photography. Other Visiting Professors include Design Editor of the Sunday Times, Gordon Beckett, film maker, broadcaster and media executive, Graham Creelman OBE and Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, Adrian Wootton who will visit NUCA in early March.
