YEAR 0 FINE ART
The creation of
'the idea' is the
fundamental element
of a design solution."Phil Gray
COURSE LEADER
This course allows students to engage with a variety of fine art practices and processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and video. The course aims to provide a solid practical preparation for entry to our BA (Hons) in Fine Art.
This mainly studio-based course enjoys access to NUCA’s excellent workshop facilities. Initially students will be given specific projects that are designed to build abilities, inspire confidence and explore areas of personal interest. Students are encouraged to take risks and to question pre-conceived ideas and assumptions.
The range of teaching methods employed includes lectures, seminars, tutorials, group critiques and self-directed study. Our talented team of fine art staff display a breadth of expertise, ensuring you receive a rounded and stimulating experience.
Alongside studio work you will be introduced, through debate, to issues relating to contemporary fine art. This promotes contextualisation in students’ work.
After successfully completing Year 0, students will be guaranteed a place on the BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Norwich University College of the Arts.
Who should apply for Fine Art Year 0:
Fine Art Year 0 is suitable for a variety of students.
- Those who have studied A levels that are not entirely relevant to their chosen degree. Therefore, an intensive year of study will help build a suitable portfolio for a Year 1 undergraduate course, or
- Those that do not have the necessary grades to start an undergraduate course, or
- Mature students with relevant work experience but no formal qualifications.
