YEAR 0 GRAPHIC DESIGN

This course introduces students to a variety of graphic design practices and processes. This provides a comprehensive grounding that will ensure they are prepared for entry into one of four of our BA(Hons) courses in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Design for Publishing.

The course is mainly studio-based and delivered using a range of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, tutorials, group critiques and self-directed study. Initially students tackle specific projects that are designed to build abilities, confidence and personal areas of interest.

Between them the teaching staff possess a wealth of knowledge and expertise, which ensures the learning experience, will be thorough and inspiring.

When not engaged on studio projects, students explore the history of graphic design. This study brings context to ideas and work. Students are encouraged to think out of the box and to challenge pre-conceived assumptions.

After successfully completing Year 0, students will be guaranteed a place on one of the  BA(Hons) courses as listed above.

Who should apply for Graphic Design Year 0:
Graphic Design Year 0 is suitable for a variety of students.

  • Those that have studied A levels that are not entirely relevant to their chosen degree. Therefore, an intensive year of study will help build a suitable portfolio for a Year 1 undergraduate course, or 
  • Those that may not have the necessary grades to start an undergraduate course, or
  • Mature students with relevant work experience but no formal qualifications.
