Student Maintenance Loan
This loan helps with living costs such as accommodation, food, clothes, travel and course expenses. This loan is available to new and existing eligible UK students and the amount students receive is dependent on household income and any maintenance grant received.
A student not receiving a Maintenance Grant, living outside London and not with parents will be able to borrow up to £4,950 (2010/11) whereas those who live with their parents will be able to borrow up to £3,838 (2010/11). 72% of the loan amount is available to all eligible students and is not income assessed. The remaining 28% will be dependent on household income.
Further information on eligibility and criteria is available from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

Students should note that the NUCA bursary is an annual award and will be reduced proportionately for students who do not complete a full year of study and leave subsequent to the payment date.
Applications must have been received by NUCA by 31 July each year to be considered for a bursary. Additionally, any amendments to existing bursary allocations must be received by 31 July each year.
