Swine Flu
Important information about Swine flu
As you may be aware, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared a pandemic alert now that Swine flu is spreading in several countries. Whilst there is no immediate concern, the risk of greater numbers of the population catching the virus has increased. Norwich University College of the Arts has no known cases of the virus but in common with other higher education institutions, is offering further advice to students to help minimise the risk to you.
This is a very infectious illness and experts believe it spreads through coughing and sneezing in the same way as more seasonal influenzas. There is therefore a greater need to be aware of what to do if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms. You should look at the NHS symptom checker on line at https://www.pandemicflu.direct.gov.uk/ or ring the new hotline 0800 1 513 513. If you still are not sure, contact your GP by phone or call NHS Direct on 08454647 and consult them before making any visit to a surgery. We also strongly advise you to limit contact with other people as far as possible and contact your course area to confirm your absence from College until your symptoms disappear. If you are coming into University College accommodation, please telephone Student Support on 01603 610561 or email support@nuca.ac.uk for further advice.
The NHS recommends that everyone follows general infection control practices and good hygiene to reduce the transmission of all viruses, for example regular and thorough washing of hands.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact Student Support on support@nuca.ac.uk or 01603 756240
