Library

The Library is a specialist art, design and media collection that serves as a resource to stimulate and support the creative activities of students and staff. The Library team, in conjunction with the academic community, aim to ensure that the collections are relevant to the needs of aspiring visually creative practitioners.

The Library is located in the Duke Street Building, a re-designed and re-furbished nineteenth century school building which also houses the Careers Advisory Service, the Student Union Office, a Lecture Theatre, seminar rooms and a social learning space with refreshment services. The building is designed to be accessible by disabled users.

HELPING YOU LEARN ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Finding information of all kinds is a key part of the student experience. The Library team provide an induction programme and subsequent information sessions which aim to enable users to locate and evaluate information independently. There is a Helpdesk on the First Floor to help you with any library concerns from finding a book to helping you with the catalogue to showing you how to use the printers.

PRINTED BASED MEDIA: BOOKS AND JOURNALS
The Library houses 30,000 volumes and subscribes to over 120 journal titles. The bulk of the collection is devoted to art, design and media and there is a strong theoretical element that serves to support critical theory and Personal Development Planning within individual courses. The Library collects a variety of media and subjects including exhibition catalogues, graphic design yearbooks, guides to computer applications, some computer games, feature films including a collection of animated films, TV programmes recorded under licence, books on art and design practitioners and artist's books.

ONLINE LIBRARY
As soon as you are registered as a student you will have a Library account. You will be able to renew your books, check reservations, and make reservations online. In addition the Library has a set of resources available on the University College virtual learning environment ‘Moodle'. These include access to the catalogue, to electronic books and journals and to a variety of databases.

OTHER COLLECTIONS
The Library has both digital images in the form of on-line image banks and analogue in the form of slides. The online image banks offer access to over 400,000 copyright cleared images. There is a collection of over 2,500 videotapes and DVDs that focus for the most part on art, design and creative media. The Special Collections include a selection of artists books.

PRINTING, PHOTOCOPYING AND SCANNING
There is a separate room on the Ground Floor dedicated to colour and black and white photocopying and scanning. The Computer room has colour and black and white printing facilities

COMPUTERS IN THE LIBRARY
There is a computer room with 20 networked computers, and a further 20 computers in the Library reading and study areas, including facilities for disabled users. The Duke Street Building is wireless enabled so you are welcome to use your own laptop if you wish.

STUDY SPACES
The Library has 50 study spaces in the reading room, a group study room and a computer room.

WHO CAN USE THE LIBRARY?
Access to the Library extends to all registered Norwich University College of the Arts students and staff and to users registered within the SCONUL Access Scheme. In addition alumni, certain categories of educational users and artists/ designers are eligible to use the services.
