Disability and Dyslexia
The Student Support office offers a dedicated service providing information and advice on disabilities including assistance with applying for funding support through the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
All applications to Norwich University College of the Arts are considered on academic criteria but students are encouraged to disclose any disability they may have as early as possible in order that support needs can be identified and assessed.
Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties
Important: Now you are in Higher Education it is important to understand how support for dyslexia is provided. All support comes via the Disabled Students' Allowances and you will have to apply for this before you can receive support. This is explained in detail on the www.direct.gov.uk website and in the booklet mentioned below, but it is vital that an early application is completed as the whole process from initial screening, Educational Psychologist report, Needs Assessment report to receiving the full support can take 6 months.
Staff in Student Support can be contacted at support@nuca.ac.uk to ensure you understand all stages of the application process and answer any queries you may have. The www.direct.gov.uk website has a useful section called 'Disabled Students' Allowances - an introduction'.
Disabilities and Medical Conditions
If you have disclosed any disability or medical condition that may require additional support while studying at NUCA, you must also apply for financial help from Student Finance through the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) as detailed above. A booklet explaining in detail what medical proof will be required can be downloaded directly from the www.direct.gov.uk website entitled: 'Bridging the Gap: A guide to the Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) in higher education'.
It is important to contact Student Support as soon as possible so that we can gain a proper understanding of your requirements and provide help with applying for any available support through the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA).
