Qualifications and Entry Requirements

Undergraduate awards

Excluding Year 0 - see below. Any of the following levels of qualification meet NUCA's requirements for applications to undergraduate courses.

GCE A/AS levels 280 tariff points, grades: BBC. At least 1 B grade at A-level must be in an art and design related subject. Passes in four other subjects at GCSE level (grade C or above).
Please note that for BA (Hons) Architecture, candidates should have achieved at least a grade C in Maths at GCSE level. If you are not taking 3 A-levels, NUCA will consider combinations of A-level/AS-level and other Level 3 qualifications.
Advanced Diploma in Creative and Media Pass at Grade B in the Diploma and B in the Additional and Specialist Learning. Passes in four other subjects at GCSE level (grade C or above). Advanced Diplomas in other subjects would not normally be accepted unless accompanied by other Level 3 art and design related subjects.
International Baccalaureate A minimum of 25 Points

For the following vocational qualifications we do not specify tariff points but will normally require the following grades:

BTEC National (from 2011 onwards) Extended Diploma MMM (Merit, Merit, Merit)
BTEC National (from 2011 onwards) Diploma DD (Distinction, Distinction)
BTEC National (qualifications completed prior to June 2011) National Diploma MMM (Merit, Merit, Merit)
BTEC National (qualifications completed prior to June 2011) National Certificate DD (Distinction, Distinction)
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design M (Merit)

Year 0 entry Requirements (Fine Art and Graphic Design)

GCE A/AS levels A minimum of 200 tariff points (which must include at least two A2 (A-level) qualifications at Grade C - plus the additional points necessary). At least one grade C A-Level must be in an art, design related subject. Passes in four other subjects at GCSE (Grade C or above). A typical offer for Year 0 entry will be CC at A2 plus C in an additional A1 (Advanced Subsidiary) or other equivalent Level 3 qualification.

BTEC National (from 2011 onwards) Diploma DM
BTEC National (qualifications completed prior to June 2011) National Diploma MMP (Merit, Merit, Pass)
BTEC National (qualifications completed prior to June 2011) National Certificate DM
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design P (Pass)

Other Qualifications:

The University College will accept other pre-entry qualifications or combinations of different qualifications. For further information on the types of qualifications accepted, please consult the UCAS Entry Profile for your chosen course (www.ucas.ac.uk).

Applications may also be considered from candidates who do not meet these minimum entry requirements. NUCA welcomes individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and previous educational or professional experiences, including those with nonstandard qualifications.

Postgraduate Awards

The offer of entry onto a Masters Degree (MA) is based on an expectation that you have the potential to fulfil the aims of the course of study and achieve the standard required to successfully complete the award. Entrants should normally have achieved a BA (Hons)/BSc Degree of 2:1 or above (or its equivalent), in a subject related to your proposed course of study.

Applicants who hold a Degree from another discipline may also be considered for entry, subject to the submission of a satisfactory portfolio of art, design or media-related work in support of their application.
