    Repeat

New works by contemporary textile designers - A NUCA Touring Show

    10 - 28 January 2012

'Repeat' has been conceived and curated by University College academics, Dr Hilary Carlisle, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Design, and the Course Leader for Textiles, Nick Rodgers. An external textile design exhibition specialist comprises the third member of this curatorial group. The exhibition draws on a range of contemporary textile practices and includes drawing, textiles, product, video, installation and design work. The show is accompanied by a series of related events and workshops, including talks by the exhibitors.

'Repeat' acknowledges a fundamental motif within textiles and surface design practice and the subsequent manufacture of repeating patterns has a long history and wide geography. Repeat patterns create visual interest and intrigue, but can also provide a useful parameter for designers and artists who are creating viable works for commercial production. Similarly, repeat structures are studied in many areas of science and mathematics, including crystallography, genetics, physics and mathematics.

    Sunlight

    Roger Ackling

    Tuesday 1 November - Saturday 26 November

Norwich University College of the Arts is delighted to present 'Sunlight', a celebration of recent works by the internationally acclaimed artist Roger Ackling. We are pleased and privileged to note the inclusion of a number of the works in the show that are being exhibited for the first time.

Roger's intimate sculptural works are made by focusing sunlight through a hand-held magnifying glass to mark the surface of tools, pieces of discarded wood or scraps of card. The time and care taken in making the work and the natural energy harnessed to ‘draw’ onto the materials are indicative of an artist whose work is deeply contemplative and entirely empathetic with the materials and means at his disposal.

    Reflections on the Self

    Five African Women Photographers

    Tuesday 27th September - Saturday 15th October
A touring show from the Hayward Gallery

Reflections on the Self presented women's visual narratives, as told through self-portraits and portraits of other women. Five photographers, Hélène Amouzou, Majida Khattari, Zanele Muholi, Senayt Samuel and Nontsikelelo Veleko engage with issues such as identity, sexuality and displacement, and their work often overturns stereotypical expectations.
